Excursion week

Wow, one month in Bilbao already! Time really flies here. After the last time of posting I have visited many places which I'm going to show in this post. First one is La Arboleda. It's a park and a little village close to Bilbao. There is a lake which has a water of nice shade of green. Really nice place even though close by there were loudspeakers sending propaganda because of the elections they had last Sunday, so it could have been more peaceful.

On Friday I visited Guggenheim. They had an event called Art After Dark. It's organised once in a month on Friday and then it's possible to visit the museum from 10pm to 1am, see the exhibitions, enjoy the music played by good DJ's and enjoy some drinks. It was a really cool event but sadly I don't have pictures as it wasn't allowed to to take pictures of the exhibitions.

On Saturday I went on a trip to San Sebastian which was organised by AEGEE Bilbao. San Sebastian is a city around an hour away from Bilbao, close to France. We spent the whole day there and the weather was superb, +30 and sun. We took a funicular to the mountain where we saw the awesome scenery and took the best pictures. We walked around the old town and spent time on the beach. There were quite many tourists in San Sebastian as it was the last day of the annual film festival there. Also this year San Sebastian is the European capital of culture.

On Sunday it was time for the other trip which was organised by ESN Bilbao. We visited the Butron castle, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and the Oma forest. Sadly we couldn't go inside the castle, they said that there is a dungeon there. It was already my second time when I visited San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, but this time I went to the top of it. Last sight was the Oma forest, which has painted trees. They told us that the paintings are not original as the Basque terrorist group ETA had destroyed the originals at some point as the painter was against ETA. Not so special for a Finn that forest as I can see the same scenery in Finland. It was a fun weekend and I really like the nature in Northern Spain. 

Suomeksi: Vau, jo kuukausi takana Bilbaossa! Aika menee todella nopeasti. Viime postauksen jälkeen olen käynyt useissa eri paikoissa joista aion kertoa tässä postauksessa. Ensimmäinen niistä on La Arboleda, järvi ja kylä lähellä Bilbaota. Järven vedellä on erikoinen vihreän sävy. Todella mukava paikka vaikkakin lähettyvillä oli kaiuttimia joista tuli propagandaa viime sunnuntain vaalien vuoksi, joten sen vuoksi se ei ollut ihan täysin hiljainen/rauhallinen paikka.

Perjantaina vierailin Guggenheimissa. Siellä oli Art After Dark-tapahtuma joka oli kello 22.00-1.00. Silloin museossa oli soittamassa DJ:tä, oli mahdollisuus ostaa juomaa ja vierailla näyttelyissä. Valitettavasti kuvia ei ole sillä niitä ei ollut lupa ottaa. Tapahtuma järjestetään joka kuukausi tiettynä perjantaina. Tapahtuma oli todella kiva kokemus.

Lauantaina olin AEGEE Bilbaon järjestämällä matkalla San Sebastianissa joka sijaitsee n. tunnin päässä Bilbaosta, lähellä Ranskaa. Olimme siellä koko päivän ja sää oli mahtava, +30 astetta ja aurinkoa. Menimme vuorelle funikulaarilla josta näimme mahtavia maisemia ja otimme parhaimmat kuvat sieltä. Kävelimme ympäriinsä vanhaa kaupunkia ja vietimme aikaa myös rannalla. Kaupungissa oli melko paljon turisteja sillä lauantai oli vuosittaisen elokuvafestivaalin viimeinen päivä. San Sebastian on tänä vuonna myös Euroopan kulttuuripääkaupunki.

Sunnuntaina oli aika toisen reissun jonka järjesti ESN Bilbao. Vierailimme Butronin linnassa, San Juan de Gaztelugatxessa ja Oma-metsässä. Valitettavasti emme voineet mennä sisälle linnaan mutta he sanoivat että siellä on tyrmä. Gaztelugatxessa vierailin jo toistamiseen mutta tällä kerralla nousin huipulle asti. Viimeinen kohde oli Oma-metsä jossa oli maalattuja puita. Meille kerrottiin että alkuperäiset maalaukset oli tuhottu Baskimaan terroristijärjestön ETA:n toimesta koska maalaaja oli ETA:aa vastaan. Ei mitenkään erityinen paikka suomalaiselle se metsä, sillä metsää näkee Suomessakin. Viikonloppu oli hauska ja pidän todella paljon Pohjois-Espanjan luonnosta.

This and that

Such a creative title, but that's what life has been here. So far I have spent a bit over a week here in Bilbao and little by little it starts to feel like home. The university has slowly started with orientation days and tomorrow the classes will start. So far everything has been nice and I have liked, EXCEPT the course registration process. I'm not going to go into details but I'll just say that it's a nightmare, even the coordinator herself said that.

The weather continues to be hot, +30 every day. I have visited the Old Town (Casco Viejo) a couple of times and on Saturday I visited San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (yes, I had to copypaste that name) which is an islet located close to Bilbao. On the top of it there is a church. A lot of climbing but it is really worth it! The student life here in Bilbao seems very active, so far I have found three different Erasmus organisations so there is stuff to do for almost every evening. When I'm supposed to study? Haha. By the way, I'm so eagerly waiting for the Basque language course even though it means going to school at 8am almost every day! They say that the Basque language is super hard, so let's see what kind of a language it's for someone who speaks really difficult language too - Finnish.

Suomeksi: Todella luova otsikko, mutta tätä elämä on ollut täällä. Tähän mennessä olen ollut täällä vähän yli viikon ja vähitellen se alkaa tuntua kodilta. Yliopisto on vähitellen alkanut orientaatiopäivien merkeissä, huomenna sitten alkavat kurssit. Tähän mennessä kaikki on ollut kivaa ja olen tykännyt, PAITSI kursseille rekisteröitymisestä. En mene yksityiskohtiin mutta sanonpahan vain että se on painajainen, jopa koordinaattori itse sanoi tämän.

Sää jatkuu kuumana, +30 joka päivä. Olen käynyt vanhassa kaupungissa (Casco Viejo) muutaman kerran ja lauantaina vierailin paikassa nimeltä San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (kyllä, copypastesin nimen). Se on luoto joka sijaitsee Bilbaon lähellä. Sen huipulla on kirkko. Paljon kiipeämistä mutta se on todella kiipeämisen arvoista! Opiskelijaelämä Bilbaossa vaikuttaa erittäin aktiiviselta, toistaiseksi olen löytänyt kolme eri Erasmus-organisaatiota joten täällä on tekemistä jokaiselle illalle. Milloin sitä olisi tarkoitus edes opiskella? Haha. Muuten, odotan todella innolla Baskin kielen kurssia, vaikka se tarkoittaakin sitä että koulu alkaa kahdeksalta lähes joka päivä! Sanotaan että Baskin kieli on erittäin hankalaa, mutta katsotaanpa millainen kieli se on jollekkin joka puhuu myös todella vaikeaa kieltä - suomea.
